The Lake Barrington Shores Community Homeowners Association is hosting the 9th annual 5K and 1 mile run/walk on Saturday, September 14th at 8 a.m. Race Director Mike Foster described the event, “The 5K (USATF sanctioned) and 1 mile runs are on a scenic, flat course around a beautiful lake and through a forest preserve. There are refreshments, awards for all age groups, a beautiful T-shirt’s and wonderful prizes in a drawing afterwards. Walkers are especially welcome in both races. Kids in strollers and pets on leashes are welcome, too. All proceeds go to the Cuba Cares Food Pantry.” Cuba Township maintains a food pantry which currently serves 170 households. After an intake interview to determine eligibility, clients are able to pick up nonperishable items monthly and are eligible to attend the fresh food market at the Township each week. Cuba Cares is a 501©(3) which exists to support the Cuba Township food pantry and its recipients. Donations to Cuba Cares are used to replenish the pantry shelves and to provide limited financial assistance to qualifying Cuba Township residents. Run the Shores at Lake Barrington will begin at the Market Place Shopping Center located at Rt. 59 and Kelsey Road. Race bag, Run the Shores t-shirts and refreshments will be provided to all participants. Prizes will be awarded to the top finishers by age category. A raffle will be held following the race for participants. The 5K run will be professionally timed by RaceTime with timely results available at the finish and posted on multiple web sites. A special raffle will be held for participants who bring non-perishable items on race day for the Cuba Township Food Pantry. Participants can pre-register online and by mail, or register the day of the event from 7 a.m. - 7:45 a.m. Registration fee is $25 for adults ($30 on race day) and $15 for children 12 and under.
