Community Events

The Chamber of Commerce, Village of Wauconda, Park District, Lake County Discovery Museum, and other local establishments and organizations sponsor diverse family oriented annual events.  We started 2005 with the return of WinterFest in January. The Lions Club sponsored the
record-breaking community snowball fight and the Chamber co-hosted the Winter Olympics on Bangs Lake. A good time was had by all, ensuring a new annual event.

Next, the Business Expo is held in early spring to showcase the products and services of local businesses and
organizations. It is free to the public and draws many residents who enjoy the informative and entertaining atmosphere of the two-day event.

The Memorial Day Parade fills Main Street with enthusiastic residents enjoying aerial fly-bys, local floats, and marching

bands.  The American Legion Post 911 organizes this event and each year it grows in size and attendance. This parade is indicative of the small town atmosphere Wauconda continues to maintain.

The Chamber along with the Fire and Police Department each host a successful golf outing to raise funds for their respective charities. The Chamber event brings local business members together for an afternoon of camaraderie as does the popular “Guns and Hoses” outing sponsored by the Fire and Police departments.  All members of the community are invited to participate in these outings.

The Farmers' Market begins the third week of June and continues through the end of September, every Thursday afternoon from 3 to 7pm on Main Street, from Liberty Street to the Village Hall. Fresh produce, flowers, meats, cheeses, bread, and a myriad of other products, plus live entertainment and food vendors comprise the market making it a weekly destination. Main Street merchants also participate, with extended hours and outdoor dining.

The Wauconda Park District brings us four days of fun with WaucondaFest the last weekend of June.  This festival includes a carnival, excellent live entertainment, Miss Wauconda Pageant, outstanding food court, Car Show, and the beer tent where you are bound to see old friends and make some new.

The follow up is the 4th of July Celebration with spectacular fireworks launched over the lake as spectators enjoy family, food, and refreshments in the park. Bangs Lake is host to many fun events such as Venetian Night, The Cardboard Boat Race, and numerous fishing derbies both on water and on the ice.

The 2nd weekend in July the Chamber sponsors the IPRA Championship Rodeo. For 42 years, the rodeo has entertained fans from near and far with cowboys, horses, bulls, food vendors, beer tent, and live bands mixing for an
exciting annual event.

The Saturday of Labor Day weekend brings the Annual “Jammin' On Main” Street Dance, sponsored by the Chamber and hosted by the Village of Wauconda. Main Street is closed from 6pm until midnight, and filled with residents enjoying two live bands while raising money and gathering groceries for the Wauconda Food Pantry.

The Lake County Discovery Museum located in the Lakewood Forest Preserve on the East side of town is host to many special events and popular exhibits such as this years Walter Payton Story. A Civil War reenactment and Senior Fair are annual events, which draw large crowds to this beautiful preserve.
The final events of the year are precursors to the holiday season.

There are tree lightings, visits with Santa and a festive Holiday Walk on Main Street to get residents in the spirit and spread some cheer throughout the community.
