Wauconda Community School District 118 is a comprehensive PreK-12 school system. An enthusiastic seven member Board of Education governs the district. The Board meets twice a month to entertain questions and comments from the public, to discuss proposals and issues brought forth by the Administration and to take formal action on these proposals. Five
schools serve our student population of approximately 4,200 students. We
have a highly professional teaching staff of 280 with administrative staff
of 14. A dedicated support staff of 160

Learning Standards. Programs for identified students are available in the areas of special education and gifted education. District 118 uses the services of Special Education District of Lake County (SEDOL) to meet the requirements of certain special needs students. A variety of special education programs are also provided in-district at all grade levels. An early childhood program is offered for identified students ages 3 to 5 to help prepare them for Kindergarten. Wauconda High School offers advanced placement programs in Calculus, Biology, English Literature and United States History. Wauconda High School Juniors and Seniors can elect to attend vocational classes at the Lake County Area Vocational Center on the campus of the College of Lake County in nearby Grayslake. This Technology Campus offers 23 career-oriented courses in the fields of health services, communications, industrial technology, computer programming and food services. A variety of organizations, clubs, intramural and interscholastic sports are offered at various grade levels throughout the school district. Staff training is delivered through a variety of means. Emphasis is placed on curriculum implementation, teaching strategies, the use of assessment tools and the use of computers to enhance instruction. Each school has a school improvement plan in place. This plan helps staff identify areas of improvement that will have a positive impact on students.
